Over the course of her career, Heather has become one of the leading North Carolina workers’ compensation defense attorneys. As Partner and Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Chair at SLG, Heather brings more than 15 years of expertise to what she does best; working hard and collaboratively with clients across various industries to get the best results possible in each case.
Heather has become a leader in her profession by speaking annually at local and national conferences, as well as regularly providing educational presentations for her clients. Her speaking engagements have included the North Carolina Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Seminar and the North Carolina Industrial Commission’s Annual Conference. In the past, she has served as Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Section Council and Regional Chair for the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network.
Heather graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and she earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Law. Heather and her family are proud downtown Raleigh residents and are active in the local community. She and her husband have two daughters and a French Bulldog. In her extra time, Heather runs and competes in marathons, which she uses as a reason to travel around the U.S. and the world. Over the last few years, she has traveled to Boston, Paris, Big Sur, and Berlin for marathons. In 2024, she competed in Boston 2 Big Sur where she won 1st Place Overall Female.

Donna serves as Senior Attorney at Skidmore Law Group. She’s practiced litigation in many areas throughout her career, but she found her passion in workers’ compensation when she worked for the North Carolina Department of Justice. She enjoys the challenge of defending employers and insurance carriers amidst a variety of fact patterns and at all levels of the court system.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Donna attended Ohio University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Sociology, followed by her Juris Doctor degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. While in law school, Donna started the Student Chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, an advocacy group for animal welfare. She is currently a member of the Florida State Bar and the North Carolina State Bar.
Prior to joining Skidmore Law Group, Donna’s sense of adventure led her and her family to move to Lisbon, Portugal. The opportunity to experience another way of living, learn a new language, and travel around Europe provided a once in a lifetime experience for them all.
In her free time, Donna enjoys spending time with her three children, hiking with her two dogs, and planning her next family adventure.

With 20 years of litigation experience, Matt is one of the premier attorneys for North Carolina’s public sector. In 2024, he set out to build his own firm, Skidmore Law Group, to serve clients across a spectrum of practice areas. Prior to founding SLG, he acted as coordinating counsel for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in the Map Act litigation, where he advised and litigated over 600 individual cases. As part of his work with NCDOT, Matt has been instrumental in liaising among the Department, the North Carolina Department of Justice, outside counsel, and various contractors, ensuring a cohesive legal strategy, which includes significant appearances before Superior Courts in multiple counties, the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Since 2021, Matt has also served as counsel to the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board, where he provides legal advice during public meetings, assists in drafting legislation and administrative rules, and supports the Board in overseeing professional discipline for its licensees.
He graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, concentrating in Finance, and he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina. Megan currently serves as Operations Manager for Skidmore Law Group, building on her 15+ year career in healthcare operations and as a clinician for some of the country’s most renowned healthcare systems. In her role, she’s responsible for overseeing all operations within the firm, managing the firm’s external partnerships, and spearheading client success.
Prior to joining SLG, Megan was one of the most recognized physiologists in North Carolina. She’s most recognized for her work with the Veteran’s Health Adminstration’s National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention where she served as the V.A.’s subject matter expert for all physical activity in the V.A.-system, which spans 170 VA medical centers, over 1,000 health care facilities, and over 1,000 affiliated community-based outpatient clinics.
Before joining the V.A., Megan has held positions with Duke Diet & Fitness Center and Structure House. Throughout her career, she has focused her work on medically complicated patients and has a passion for patient-centered healthcare. In 2013 and 2014, she received the VA Communications Award for Innovation, granted by Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Robert Pretzel. Megan was also honorable mention for Best Internal Fitness/Health Campaign by Ragan Communications in 2014.
Megan has a deep passion for Raleigh and the well-being of the community. Over the last five years, she has held multiple volunteer positions with the Raleigh chapter of the American Cancer Society. Currently, she serves as the co-chair for the Triangle Relay for Life, where she organizes the annual Relay For Life, which generates over $200K for cancer research.
Megan is a proud alumna of the University of Tennessee where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education and her Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. After leaving Knoxville, she relocated to Raleigh, where she lives with her husband and two children who keep her busy with swim meets and baseball games. When she’s not shuttling her kids around, you can find her at a 4:45 AM exercise class, walking the family dog, or tending to her garden.

As Partner at Skidmore Law Group, Jim is one of the most experienced law professionals in the state of North Carolina. With over 40 years practicing law, he has myriad experience serving as in-house counsel for private insurance practices, as government attorney with the North Carolina Department of Justice, and has advised the Secretary of Transportation and other Department of Transportation senior staff on legal issues impacting major public works projects. Annually, Jim concludes approximately 100 eminent domain cases through jury trial, verdict, or by settlement, and to date has litigated over 100 civil cases, including 30 eminent domain cases, to a jury’s verdict. He is a Board-Certified Specialist in Appellate Practice and has been counsel in over 100 cases on appeal to the North Carolina Supreme Court, North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
While Jim has spent a life-long career serving his clients, his most notable service has been his service to his country. He’s a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he received a Bachelor in Science for Civil Engineering and Mathematics. Following graduation, Jim served as an officer in the U.S. Army in Panama, Vietnam, and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He continued his service as an officer in the Army Reserves when he returned to his home state of Georgia to obtain his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Georgia Law Review and the Order of the Coif. With over a decade of experience, Lindsay serves as the Partner & Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Chair at Skidmore Law Group. In this role, Lindsay helps her clients navigate the workers’ compensation system in North Carolina from the initial investigation of a claim to mediation and through the hearing and appeals process. She takes pride in representing a wide range of clients, from small businesses experiencing their first claim with their carrier to national self-insured companies working to create a safer environment and mitigate risk.
When she’s not representing worker’s compensation claims, Lindsay also practices her other passion -- Municipal Law – where she represents counties in property tax appeals, assist with internal matters like drafting and negotiating contracts, and provides continued education trainings.
Lindsay is a graduate of Cleveland State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Promotional Communication. After relocating to North Carolina, she completed her Juris Doctorate at Wake Forest University School of Law. He’s a seasoned practitioner before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, adept at navigating the intricacies of high-profile and complex cases with finesse, including successful defenses at both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court levels. His expertise extends beyond workers’ compensation, as he has provided invaluable counsel to local governmental officials and boards on a spectrum of employment matters—from wage and hour disputes to Title VII claims and public records inquiries.
Luke received his Bachelor of Science from Western Carolina University, followed by his Juris Doctorate from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University where he was a Dean’s Excellence Academic Scholar. During his time in law school, Luke distinguished himself as a judicial extern for esteemed North Carolina judges, gaining invaluable insights into a wide breadth of civil matters in State appellate and Federal bankruptcy courts. As the Partner & Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Chair, Matt brings over a decade of experience to Skidmore Law Group where he dedicates his practice to advising employers and insurance companies on matters involving workers’ compensation defense and employment law. He is a seasoned litigator and oral advocate that has tried countless claims at both the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels. With his dual expertise in both workers’ compensation and employment law, he is able to offer his clients a global strategy that protects their interests within the context of the workers’ compensation claim, while also avoiding risk through the various federal and state employment laws.
Matt received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in History from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following graduation, he continued his studies at The University of North Carolina’s School of Law, where he was a member of The First Amendment Law Review.
